Barista @ Reunion Coffee House

Job Summary:

The barista contributes to the overall success of Reunion Coffee House (RCH) by providing excellent customer service. The barista is the face of RCH and provides customers with prompt service and quality beverages and products.  The barista assists in the overall cleanliness of the coffee house and provides a comfortable and safe environment for customers.  The barista should always demonstrates commitment to the mission of CUP and be actively engaged in sharing this mission and their experience in the program to help educate customers about the missional purpose of CUP and RCH.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Comes to work with a positive attitude willing to learn
  • Presents in a calm demeanor during periods of high volume
  • Greets customers into a friendly and welcoming environment and helps them determine their drink interests
  • Acts with integrity and honesty consistent with the CUP mission
  • Proactively resolves any customer or team conflict by engaging the store manager or shift lead, as needed
  • Ask questions of supervisor whenever clarification is needed
  • Continually educates customers about CUP’s mission and shares personal experience with CUP and the Employment Success Program

Product and Environment Quality Assurance:

  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions
  • Prepares and sells drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques
  • Performs basic food preparation and service
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining coffee and food supplies for the coffee bar
  • Keeps equipment operating by following cleaning and operating instructions; reports any malfunctions of equipment immediately to shift lead or manager for inspection, troubleshooting and repair
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization’s standards and sanitation regulations, which includes consistently works with team to assure bathrooms are cleaned, dinning area is cleaned and garbage’s are emptied
  • Inspects RCH food offerings to ensure RCH quality standards are being met; follow all state mandated food handling procedures
  • Samples food and drink products on a per-shift basis for quality assurance
  • Ensure temperature checks are made on all refrigerators and freezers according to the set time schedule
  • Helps maintain a clean, well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards
  • Promotes and practices safe work habits by:
    • Identifying and resolving potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and any team member or customer incidents

Training and Development:

  • Helps ensure customer education and understanding of RCH products
  • Communicates by following the RCH Guiding Values and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Continually expands coffee knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, as well as seeks media resources outside of RCH to educate self on coffee
  • Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Maintains knowledge of RCH drink recipes and procedures to ensure high quality and consistent product standards
  • Engage fully in work experience at RCH as well as all the training components of the Employment Success Program at CUP, which include but are not limited to: Champion Chats, staff meetings, apprentice goal meetings and professional development opportunities.

  • Able to lift up to 30lbs and frequently bend and twist from the waist
  • Understand this position will require frequent standing and use of hands and arms
